Just 10 years ago the US was still seen as being progressive and racism was slowly becoming a thing of the past… and not even in 10 years all the major civil rights achievements of rhe past 70 years are being thrown out so fast it is making my head spin.

Relative to our past and relative to many other countries we were doing pretty well. Not perfect but large meaningful improvements.

Being dragged kicking and screaming into making some progress is more how I would have described the political side of that though.

which still saw america as being the greatest it had ever been in 2015. the united states has been an eternal nightmare, and the fact that the people were forcing it to be better, kicking and screaming, was the tidal shift that saw the parasites clamoring for 45.

My point was more that while parts of the population might have been progressive there were very few political figures on the progressive end of the spectrum and very few political actions.

In fact in 2016 the very slightly more progressive of the two major parties in the US felt so strongly that they needed to stop progressive movements that they nominated an extremely establishment candidate (Hillary Clinton) in an election that was clearly shaping up to be an anti-establishment election despite having a popular anti-establishment progressive candidate dropped in their lap (Bernie Sanders).

i hear you and get that’s what you’re saying. all i’m saying is is that in the history of america, that was the peak of compassion and patience in our system. and as you said, the corporations decided to make us choose between fascism immediately or fascism down the road. 10 years ago was the most progressive we’ve ever been and it was so far from good enough.

except that was due to extenuating circumstances, the 08 recession, if that had not happen, obama wouldve never won.

Neither Mexico, Netherlands nor Japan have ever had a black president.

The reason is clear. The USA is better. We have all sorts of religions and cultures living together in neighborhoods. Sometimes like in Texas, those neighborhoods are silos and people do tend to stick to their own background. But 2nd gen usually intermingles and becomes part of the melting pot. Its a thing. Hopefully it never stops being a thing.

Why would countries with a much, much smaller black population percentage than the US have a black president? Not to mention that the Netherlands and Japan have a prime minister as the head of government, not a president.

Okay… Let’s have a fun contest! Who can tell me why we have black, Hispanic, Asian and such people in the US, but other countries only have whoever lived there. Do mention slavery, railroads, trade routes and poverty. Go! I’ll give you 5 minutes!

they probably mean “culturally progressive”, as in, woke leaning. bombs with rainbows painted on them.

the US was only very briefly controlled by a progressive govt and it took a great depression and threats of mob violence against the ruling class to get that much.
