  • Ehhh… I don’t think you would say that if you were paying close attention with how he handled opposition the couple of last years.

For instance, he used special laws about 20 times to cripple any opositions when his party lost his majority to pass unpopular laws. They tried to make it illegal to film police and they pushed insane surveillance laws during the Olympic games that is most likely to stay. He refused to let the opposition name a prime minister even if the opposition won the legislative elections. He went against the clear will of the people regarding the age of retirement by forcing it with a special law (90% of workers were against it). Hell… he crippled public hospitals by removing beds during the Covid19 pandemic. He is a typical neo-liberal that mostly has the interest of his own social class. People really wanted him gone and he did everything in his power to stay. He’s still there because people were scared of the far right. I’m skipping so many things because there are so much mess to report I can’t actually remember it all of it on the top of my head.

The people are so pissed about him that there are talks about the 5th republic being a failure and needing to be changed for a 6th republic.

He has a good image on the geopolitical scene, but I would find another role model if I were you. I’m not French, but I can confidently say that he’s a lying piece of shit and most people in France hate him.

  • Getting in would be a piece of cake, yes. Holding it would be so increadibly hard though.

Over 80% are against annexation. How much police officers/soldiers would be needed to keep the peace? Socially it would be a nightmare to integrate. Canada would probably retaliate with sabotage and guerilla tactics to shut down key infrastructures.

US government would have to deal with a good portion of its own population not to mention NATO and the commonwealth members states. They could support Canada militarily, but even if they don’t there would be strong pressure and irreversible diplomatic and economic consequences. What if China and/or Russia use this as an opportunity to weaken USA while it’s busy hitting its own allies?

I just don’t see it happening and being profitable in any shape or form. It would be a useless costly mess and needless bloodshed.

  • For those who don’t know, while previous tensions regarding the recent pension protests are most likely not helping the current situation, these riots are about a cop murdering a 17 years old in the Paris suburb of Nanterre.

Mainstream media pushed the narrative that it was the fault of the parents if the teenager was a thug and tried to present the kid as a dangerous individual (while he had some issues with the law, his lawyer insisted he didn’t have a criminal record). The cop in question claimed the teen tried to ram him with his car and shot him out of self defense. Multiple videos of the event emerged and the police officer’s claim turned out to be a complete lie (he even threatened to put a bullet in his head if he didn’t comply for not having his license or something like that). Apparently, this is the kind of story that happens quite a lot in these parts of France, but now that videos of it emerged it caused the current outrage.

Now the government is claiming the riots are caused by social medias and video games and two police unions wrote a press release declaring war on these “hordes sauvages” (savages hordes) and “nuisibles” (harmful/detrimental) referring to the people of Naterre by all means necessary. (Some politicians from the oppositions are quite disturbed by it).

I’m not French, but that’s what I got from multiple reports so far, I might be missing some details.
