If potential is key, I say keep the context of the MAID process but instead of outright death make it cryonics. Plus other potential relevant volunteer stuff and organ donation stuff lined up. Even if the initial cryonics technique is not even close to viable, other stuff could be transformative. If cryonics has any chance to work, things will get appreciably better in 300-or-so years right?

Hopeful worst is my brain in a jar mostly playing VR and sometimes knitting yarn via robotic arms. Lots of ways it could be better. Also unlike traditional cyborg stuff with all-machine life-support, I would like to still have a complex microbiome if not taking it further with symbiosis.

My napkin guess is that this is some sort of specific process/tactic, either it only allows 1 2 levels of reclassification at a time or that was all that could be agreed on (with multiple agencies, likely the DEA limiting the pace). So either avoiding the Senate or the tiniest of steps that pretty much anybody will allow/defend. Slow-and-steady could be the plan, assuming Biden wins again and actually follows up.

Well that and it probably really helps with the turning-a-blind-eye, like the difference between ignoring/acquitting a hit-and-run fender-bender versus ignoring/acquitting the act of treating a no-traffic intersection (in clear conditions) like a 4-way stop. Maybe it will be enough to reduce hostility and move the relevant overton window over time while avoiding pushback.

EDIT: Looking at it more, this seems to be the department of HHS pressuring the DEA on clear medical use. As others say, the lower restriction might help further medical study which could in-turn result in further reclassification.

My thought as well, the video Tom Scott did on the mountain town that has bespoke electric vehicles (and strict usage on them for needed business) comes to mind (R2oD1ZHNMFE). I don’t know how much is law and how much is companies not caring to cater to that market (even with designs that they sell in Europe), but Kei-like vehicles can still be affordable without being fully unsafe (but the issue of safety is more about the market making larger-and-larger trucks and SUVs, and lack of viable car alternatives paired with high speed limits).

Higher cost really is not a fix. Other concerns like privacy seem like policy could mesh well with low-end (no internet connection, just-a-radio, common off-the-shelf parts, standards+no DRM etc). It would be nice for the option to exist in this space that US car companies are not trying to fill anyway.

Couldn’t hard water be described an issue of natural minerals being “not water soluble”? It’s still going to be floating in the water, and I assume that hard water is a problem of excess and thus could be managed better. Maybe even the nano form, assuming that passes the safety checks (and guidelines for safe/effective concentrations can be established).

I’ve heard fluoride builds up in your bones so it’s one of those negative health effects that’s hard to study

I mentioned it in a top-level comment, but there is hydroxyapatite that would likely be a better water additive (and increases effectiveness of fluoride toothpaste) and would probably also be good for bone health rather than a potential long-term risk.

I am once again saying: Why not hydroxyapitite? A form of calcium, same as our teeth/bones. It even has water management uses because it adsorbs other stuff like fluoride and lead, which actually makes finding info about its addition to water for the purpose of teeth health difficult.

Though it seems like hydroxyapatite water would also make fluoride toothpaste even more effective.

But for me it falls down when it comes to needing other people and/or the specific engine-level stuff that I want to get started. I was hoping to start out simple with Raylib bindings, but even that I can’t get vertex colors on imported models to work and I tinkered w/my own 2D polygon format but it was too much work for me to finalize.

My part of the fediverse doesn’t seem to work well for asking niche questions at least, I don’t see much talk on Nim and it doesn’t help that it’s hard to find when people don’t say nim-lang. Also there are 2 replies to you that aren’t federated to where I can see them (and my art threads–lowpoly+vertex colors, for instance plant–aren’t federated to your instance).

I meant newer than the context I stated (1983). And also ground floor stuff that doesn’t need internet (after install) and doesn’t need a purchase/sign-up. Available by default or not too obscure to get decent voices.

There might be some half-decent voices somewhere, but it really just doesn’t seem like it’s night-and-day for the ground floor stuff from what I’ve seen. Maybe some vocaloid stuff but even that seems like a chore to do the phonemes manually to get expected pronunciation.

Yeah, in my opinion this sounds worse than DECtalk from all the way back in 1983 (for instance, Perfect Paul). Or MacinTalk (see its usage in Whatever Happened to Robot Jones, particularly the original version).

The newer stuff often tries to sound less robotic but then if it doesn’t have the complexity to sound realistic it just sounds worse, harder to understand and yet also sounding uglier… warbly.

As someone with parents who talk about aliens, culture-war BS, and that the problem with Trump is that he isn’t antivax enough? I assure you you’re wrong. I mean they aren’t buying raw milk but they definitely picked up on the idea from the rightosphere, and have talked about it a few times too.

I should be clear there is a background of “REGULATION BAD” here (government bad, corporation/money good). Also republican lawmakers changing laws on raw milk (and then getting sick after drinking it in celebration, cause not confirmed either way but the excuses are onion-esque particularly the lawmaker sick on his office couch)

The woo woo isn’t owned by either side either, though I would say it may be more of a case of weak political alignment that may shift to better suit their agenda (this is the case for my parents who voted for Obama and now express their regret for that in relation to who they are now) and/or a change of views they now see as acceptable to publicly have.

Does it even have touch capability? Though I could see the logic if there is some way to develop in a way that allows easily exporting to both the Playdate and Android.

Also I’d say a lot of those features are easier had with a Steam controller (or perhaps other gamepad). Granted they are not sold anymore, but I got one in the fire sale and likely a lot of people did as well due to being dirt cheap (PC Gamer says 48 million, 10% of sessions).

I was originally going to reply to @essell on agreement on cost, but the only real substance was

1. It’s not really for me for a lot of reasons (I don’t need portability, I don’t like buying things generally+use what I have)
2. I haven’t worked my way up to real creation yet (due to a lot of problems) but my desired aesthetic is more like these things I’ve made animated 2D eye (note:imgur links only work if opened in a private window for me) or 3D plant with only vertex colors.

I’m thirsty for tritium water. I’m sure it’s not a health thing, but it probably tastes better (more quenching).

And I want them to pay me a dollar in store credit to drink it. I want them to study me for the effects after years (and many many gallons) of having done this, and then I want to get a medal from some nuclear safety commissioner in Japan or something and look stupid when they show a still of my face on the Japanese news programs.

I am in USA, so I wouldn’t doubt them only restricting it here (or whatever places they serve their paid service, but USA-only is a common thing).

Fun fact: If you’re subscribed to the channel, sometimes full episodes pop up in your notifications. Even if you’re too slow to see it before it is removed, you may be able to watch on the YT alternatives. This has happened twice for me so far (the episode this segment was from came up last sunday), though I wouldn’t be shocked if this was some marketing tactic.

KiB, MiB, GiB etc are more clear. It makes a big difference especially 1TB vs 1TiB.

The American way would probably be still using the units you listed but still meaning 1024, just to be confusing.

I use Krita for infrequent no-stakes photo editing (and even pixel art at one point), might not be for everyone but there’s a lot of overlap. Also you can use G’MIC with Krita, so that might help.

I used to use GIMP, but I prefer Krita now.

Easier and cheaper to get a second screen.

Also allows you to position the monitors/TVs differently for competitive gaming.

OK neat I found the setting that allows hiding tabs (so it’s just groups again), better than nothing but I’m guessing I’d still need to use custom CSS to just… turn off the horizontal tab bar completely when using the tree menu?

Tried it and was disappointed that it was an additional thing that doesn’t hide the default tab bar when enabled. Never ended up using it because of that, plus unreadable tabs is not a daily thing for me.
