This is the craziest thing for me. Now buying physical means you cant install or play if Nintendos servers are offline. As it stands, buying a BluRay PS5 game means you can play it without any connection for most games - actual ownership of a game that cant be taken away unless they send people to your home and take it away.

While many (if not most) countries have national parks, the policies surrounding them are different. A simple thing like camping is often restricted in European parks, mixed land use is allowed so you are more removed from pure non human nature. As a result, the experience of visiting one may be vastly different - depending on what you are doing. American national parks are exceptional not because they are the only country that has them - which isnt true as you pointed out, they are exceptional because of the governing policies surrounding them.

I calculated the energy cost of running a 100w PC 24/7 for 2 years, covers the cost of a new mini PC + 2 years of its own energy cost. So I just bought a NUC which draws 7-8W. Less noisy too. Laptops usually draw less than desktops though so you may be good there.

And it’s a valid point. Services like audible and Netflix offer something that can not be matched by traditional storage, that’s why they are profitable to begin with. Streaming content instead of downloading it to each device is a good selling point, one which is covered by self hosting this stuff.
