Lawmakers in Iraq are proposing amendments to the country’s Personal Status Law that could allow marriage for girls as young as 9.

There was a post by someone else covering pretty much the same today, but sadly it was removed by mods for “low credibility source”. Which is a shame because there was a lot of discussion. But hey, rules are rules, so here it is from a credible source.

    They already do. At least in the middle east. If not, this law wouldn’t have gone so far.

      Technically it’s an amendment, and it’s only been proposed which (not an expert on Iraq government) I believe is the first step and doesn’t really require anything to be done.

      Like, anyone in the government can propose anything.
