Open page. Look for the word “Boeing”. Find it almost instantly. Be surprised.

    Wait, not that last one.

It’s a 15 year old plane, at that point it’s more about the airline maintenance program and pilots rather than who made it.

Wasn’t the problem with the blown put door for example that the official Boeing maintenance contractors just didn’t fix it right? Or was that not “maintenance” but rather “retrofitting”?

        I honestly don’t quite remember.

an average commercial plane is easily used for 20 years, and depending on the model can go for nearly twice as long.

They’re saying there was a bird strike as they were coming in to land. Boeing may not be a factor on this one.

How do birds take out planes?

I remember watching modern marvels and they were showing jet engines being tested by firing frozen chickens into them and they didn’t even blink.

I don’t know, just reporting what was being said.

If enough (large) birds in flight got into the engines maybe it causes a fire? I don’t know though.

I saw a suggestion that the pilots may have been too distracted by other issues to put down the gear.

However, better to wait for a proper investigation.

Not what article is saying. Plane was ordered to a runway to avoid bird strikes. Landing gear failed to fully come down. Pilot did declare mayday 2 minutes before touching down, so seems to have had the opportunity to abort landing, or jettison fuel, which would not normally be full enough on landing to burn everyone.

Fair enough - bear in mind that I posted 6 hours ahead of you, and I was getting info from a BBC live feed, not the posted article.

Regardless, I think we can agree that this is a horrendous tragedy and hopefully a full and accurate explanation can be found.
