A reference to The benefit of having a recommendation engine auto add stuff for you

A recommendation engine is perfectly fine and can be fun to discover new things you might otherwise not know about, but auto adding is a huge nono. You don’t want some random shit getting automatically added to your server and taking up space (or using potentially valuable/limited download credit from a private tracker) just because it thinks it knows what you want to watch/listen to/read. Automatically adding new stuff unsolicited it just a really bad idea.

Right now, if you want to add a new movie or TV show, you probably:

Search for it manually across different Arr services

I mean, you only search one arr service depending on the media type.

Check which quality profiles or indexers work best for that media type

Figure out if it’s already available somewhere in your library

You’ve already setup your quality profiles and indexers for your Arrs when you initially configured them, so there’s no need to do that every time you add a new item. If it’s already in your library, it shows when you search for it so not much figuring out.

Manually add it to the right service

Again, you’ve already searched in the appropriate Arr service for the media type. The “manual” action is pressing “Add”, which i assume you’d need to do with this too?

I think I’m confused as to what problem this actually solves?

It is not in a dock. Yea, subnet of laptop is the same as the rest of the network.

I can reach the router from the laptop yes, I can see the laptop and it’s IP on the router too.

I also can’t ping or SSH from the laptop

Laptop cannot ping or access jellyfin server, other devices can ping and access without issues.

I don’t have audio sync issues at all. I have issues with appleTV using the wrong audio track when I select something different than the default. E.g. if I select Danish, it shows that it’s using the Danish track but it’s actually playing something else like Finnish or Swedish. This behaviour is only on the appleTV and no other devices.

I think that’s an issue with the jellyfin server

It’s just weird that audio tracks works correctly on all other devices, this is only happening on the appleTV.

Constantly turning it on/off will probably kill the disk faster than the power savings can make up for it, compared to just having it idle when not actively used.

Fair enough. But even if you don’t run on PV and actually do transcode 24/7/365, it’s still only 5€/month. They idle at around 1/3 to 1/2 that though, which is arguably better for the disk than being turned on/off all the time, so you still get the bulk of the savings while extending disk lifetime.

Sure it’s 100kWh in a year, so it’s a few bucks per month saved. But in reality it’s likely even less than half that saved, because the majority of the time it’s probably not under transcoding loads.

You’ve saved a whoopping 0.3kWh/day (assuming transcoding 24/7), that’s surprisingly little I would say.

I recently had massive issues reaching my home network from hotel WiFi. I couldn’t even connect my regular VPN on their WiFi, I tried a bunch of stuff with different ports, TCP/UDP, different protocols, nothing seemed to work even for my proton VPN.

I managed to get mullvad running though, then I could connect with tailscale (with mullvad VPN still running) and then disable mullvad after tailscale connected. Tailscale then didn’t drop the connection.

Weird work around, but it was consistent.

Yeah it’s pretty crazy…prices vary by the hour, and that was only the single most expensive hour in that period though, and it was way above normal. Normally it peaks around 0.35USD/kWh with normal daytime prices around 0.2USD/kWh and nighttime prices around 0.1USD/kWh.

My total electricity consumption in the 5-9pm period is only around 2kWh though, so despite high prices it’s not much money.

Hah, that’s rookie numbers man…we just hit $1.2USD/kWh the other day during the “dinner rush” between 5pm-9pm

No I want full access to my home media server for streaming, I have very little use for SSH only in this case.

Is it creepy what people collect data on their own viewing habits so they can visualise data for fun and keep track of things they’ve watched? I’m not sure I understand why that is creepy TBH. It’s not like people are collecting data on viewing habits of random strangers.

TL:DR it’s an application for gathering statistics on jellyfin users and watching habits.

Yeah this actually works, but only specifically for openvpn on 443 in TCP mode…anything wireguard is blocked regardless of port.
