Also worth noting

Elsewhere in the AJP survey, 83 percent of respondents were not aware that calves were removed from their mothers within 24 hours of birth. This is standard practice in farms

I didn’t know this until I was watching Dominion after deciding to go vegan. I didn’t really think about it much, but I figured they were bred to always produce milk or something, like how sheep have been bred to keep growing wool.

Not disagreeing with the premise or result but the quiz is poorly designed. I’ve seen similar tactics from right wing misinformation, we can do better than that. It reads like this:

    How many seconds after birth is a calf separated? A. 81254 B. 82154 C. 85124

You got it wrong? You are uneducated!!1!

I thought they just gave them hormones so they produce milk? They dont have to impregnated i think. Idk not an expert, feel free to explain why im wrong.

They need to be impregnated. The dosage of hormones needed to make them spontaneously lactate is probably dangerous or too unpredictable. Pregnancy is cheaper, safer, and more reliable.

Had a conversation with a female biologist who was unaware that her intact female dog would have a heat cycle.

People simply don’t think things through.

my sister, who went to an agricultural uni, told me domesticated cows just produce milk, like how chickens just lay eggs
so me, a guy with not much relevant formal education, would feel weird asking back “are you sure?”
it was a few years ago, maybe i should revisit

They probably think they’re like laying hens.

Which doesn’t really make sense when you think about it, but carnists do their best to never think about their food so…
