Why are people defending physical violence over a vehicle? I don’t get it. Sure, he made a poor purchasing decision. No wonder, the culture war has been so successful at dividing us.

The article never suggests any physical violence, though. The problems he reported to CBS are a “hateful sticker”, “threats online”, “somebody tried to cut me off” and “three guys pointing the middle finger and […] screaming at me”. Not super cool either, but they’re not physical violence. Those last two might even be legal, depending on the circumstances.

For anybody curious, since the article doesn’t mention what the “hateful sticker” was, from a quick search it was: “NAZIS FUCK OFF”.

Pretty sure the last two are not just legal, but required under MA law while merging onto any highway.

Really the bottom three, but that’s just because we haven’t gotten the nearly impossible to remove electrostatically charged stickers from Snow Crash yet. Soon as we get those puppies it’s game on!

Physical violence? Did I miss where the dude got dragged from his vehicle and beaten?

Go out in public proudly displaying political symbols, and you should expect people to answer back with a yell or a finger. A sticker about how your car sucks. Maybe even a blast of coal-rolling exhaust. Words invite words; symbols invite symbols - no one’s throwing hands, so I’d say this is just about how I’d like culture war to work.

USA is all about class wars. No one else on the planet gives a flying fuck what you drive. But in US? It’s somehow the most hanious thing you can do.

Its a fucking car. Get over yourself. Musk isn’t hand building them. It’s easy to “boycott” something you can’t afford. I’m sure everyone here avoids amazon and nestle, right?

Buying new car is stupid regardless, but if my model 3 breaks down tomorrow, I’ll go buy another model 3. But it won’t, because it’s literally the best EV on the market. I test drove BYD literaly today, it is the 2nd best EV I’ve driven (and I’ve driven A LOT of EVs) but it’s generations behind what Tesla offers. This isn’t some subjective opinion, tesla is the best in range, efficiency, road noise, safety, software and “self driving” (while not ready, might never be, they’re still the best at it). They’re also likely the cheapest option.

You’re meant to skip that for what? Internet keyboard warrior fame?

It’s even easier to cry like a baby about not being able to afford to drive a different car, when just the golden wrap on your luxury vehicle cost more than an entire normal car.

Nobody fucks with standard teslas lol. Even our wannabe pharaoh here is barely getting fucked with compared to the baseline Worcester experience

We shall see. Comments online surely show how unhinged people are. Or how about the highly upvoted post of standard Tesla being rattle canned with a huge swastika on it? 90% of the comments saw no issue with it.

And let’s not pretend it’s just tesla thing, look at Nvidia cards, people are rooting for People’s cards burning down because they couldn’t get one.

There are more examples, HPA in airsoft is another hobby I follow, people want it banned off sites.

Zero about understanding, no, people are just cunts.

I couldn’t care less about this golden twat, but look at any other post about tesla here? People are advocating torching them. When called out will pretend it’s only when they self set on fire!

I’m getting really tired of it. It’s just hate hate hate. Me vs them. I hope you see my point.

Maybe luxury car owners, high end computer enthusiasts, and adults larping as soldiers with their expensive little toy guns should wake the fuck up to the situation that is developing around them if they care so much about peace and love. Hope you see my point

You, yes you personally, should direct that energy into defending trans people and immigrants whose lives are actually threatened by violence instead of wasting it on wealthy people who are merely made “uncomfortable” by people telling them to fuck off lmao. Or just continue to hallucinate and argue with yourself about the deep philosophical trimmings of whether or not anybody at all should be allowed to experience any form of pleasure if even one among us anywhere in the world is suffering. Man, if only we were hip to what an asshole musk was a month ago. His fans could have known that buying a cybertruck was going to get negative attention. But I guess there were no signs to warn us. And really, who drives cybertrucks more than single moms living paycheck to paycheck, day laborers, and other marginalized folks? We should just assume that anyone in a gold cyber truck had zero idea what they were doing, had no intention of being an edgy dbag, and only uses it to deliver fresh produce to the local food banks.

Are we seriously stooping to the level of our supposed betters when it comes to dealing with criticism or disagreement? Elon Musk and Trump, two individuals who have no qualms about using their influence and power to bully others into silence.

A fellow just gets harassed for driving a car that he’s passionate about. Can you imagine how it feels to be constantly singled out and shunned because of something so mundane as the shape of your vehicle? The Cybertruck is a polarizing design, but should that make one a target for abuse?

The stickers on his car are just the cherry on top of this toxic behavior. It’s not just harassment, it’s vandalism. I can only imagine how dehumanizing and demoralizing it must be to have people’s hate projected onto your property.

This incident is a perfect example of how our society has become increasingly divided and tribal. We’re more likely to attack the person or the idea rather than engaging in constructive dialogue. The ‘other’ becomes a target, and we lose sight of what really matters - empathy, kindness, and understanding.

I’m truly sad to see this happen. The owner of the Cybertruck is not some kind of ideologue who deserves to be attacked. He’s just an average person who wants to drive his car without fear of reprisal or ridicule. And what will it achieve? Will it make him think twice about his choices? I doubt it. If anything, it’ll reinforce his conviction and anger.

We need to learn to treat each other with respect and dignity, even when we disagree. Harassment and intimidation are not solutions to problems; they’re just symptoms of a deeper issue - our inability to listen to opposing views and engage in civil discourse.

Too bad Kamala wasn’t the winner. She was all about “take the high road”. It seems that since she lost, people have interpreted this as “I must get as dirty as the other side to win”. Sorry, I don’t want to play those low, nasty games that the other side has played forever.

The right is living out their wet dream right now, in charge of almost every facet of the federal government. Unfortunately for them, that also comes with the responsibility to improve things in some way. By almost any metric you can imagine, we haven’t seen much improvement. I think if they don’t want to get tossed out next election, they had better start building up some wins. I do not think the public, no matter how MAGA-ly aligned will gladly accept 3.9 more years of “b-b-b-b-but Biden made the economy so bad we can’t do anything”.

Why was Trump before the election saying “Give me a day and I’ll fix this country” and then after it saying “Well, things are real hard, but we’ll give it a shot…”. It’s because the guy is all bark and no bite. It’s a lot easier to promise all-encompassing fixes to the USA than it is to actually do them, and I think other than just blindly tearing down (expensive) federal agencies and claiming that as a win, he has no real plan other than disruption. Unfortunately for those of us in the USA that just want to live day by day, we aren’t rooting for random chaos.

I think about half the voters just want to see the world burn to “own the libs” and the other half wants improvements in housing costs, food costs, improvements in wagers, worker’s rights, etc. My crystal ball says we will see much more disruption and vanishingly few improvements to life for the average American, but let’s find out! I’d be glad to be wrong and Trump transforms the USA into a utopia. I just don’t think it’s very likely.

Go ahead, if that’s what tickles your pickle, but I’m not joining in. I don’t want to sink to the lowest common denominator.

I’d like to think the Democrats will win because the Republicans will get nothing of substance done during the next 3.9 years and the Democrats will come up with some decent plans for the nation. It seems like a lot of people just want to see the Democrats get better at slinging mud instead. I don’t agree with this.

I’d rather have democrats in power for more than four months over 40 years so they can actually fix things.

Because that’s what always happens: Republicans sling mud and break shit, Democrats get elected because shit is broken and refuse to sling mud to fix it, and then Democrats lose because they won’t sling mud.

But if you don’t want to break the cycle we’ve been stuck in since Reagan because it’s mean then I don’t know what to tell you.

While you’re joining in the pointless mud slinging about a person’s choice of vehicle, the government is being dismantled, we’re filling our first concentration camps and threatening to invade Canada.

The solution isn’t to play the game of pointless division which got us into this mess in the first place. The people with power that are breaking our society got that power by tricking people into worrying about trivial differences within their class.

The solution to that problem isn’t to continue worrying about trivial differences amongst your class.

If a woman wears a short dress to feel pretty that is not an invitation for someone to assault them.

If someone buys a vehicle that is a know disaster, from a guy who can’t stop lying and cheating, and then makes it shiny gold to really drive home that they love their nazi-built pile of rolling garbage and then complains that people are expressing their displeasure in said person’s support of the person who is actively doing things that are killing/will kill people well buddy they can absolutely go fuck themselves.

This place is perfectly OK stooping as low as the “other side”. Our violence is justified, theirs is not. Under no circumstance is the owner of that Cybertruck owned by someone that LOVES EV’s and just loves its looks/capabilities. They absolutely must have bought it because they support Nazi’s, no other reason. Everyone else here is virtuously perfect.

So each ‘side’ of America keeps stepping lower, justifying it by the previous act bringing us deeper into this hell we’re building in real time.

For the record, Elon can go f%$k himself, but under no circumstances am I going to inflict violence/anger on a random AMERICAN going about their day in their stupid Cybertruck.

I think everything about them is stupid. EVs in general do not fit my use case.

I do track days / time trials in my fun car I tow a boat and haul stuff with my truck (sometimes hundreds of miles). I guess if I could have a third commuting car a EV might work, but I use my motorcycle for that whenever possible.

If they’re just an EV enthusiast, they would have bought a good EV that doesn’t crash itself, lock you inside, and rust out from a little morning dew. A Rivian pickup still costs less than a Swasticar and functions a lot better.

This was a personal choice that these drivers made when they bought their truck, and they get to live with the consequences. Your argument has more holes than swiss cheese.

          Our violence is justified…

Light vandalism is a good start. Violence against Nazis IS justified - it’s the only language they speak, so be sure to communicate loud and clear.

Even if it is 10 degrees, I’ll roll down the window and make a jackoff gesture. Fucking clowns. I have appointments near a Boeing office, you’ll be shocked to know that more than a few Boeing employees drive Wankpanzers. Boeing planes are built to the same standards lately so it tracks.

If you don’t want to be treated like a nazi sympathizer, then don’t drive a nazi vehicle. Simple.

Hey, the second state pastime is giving the finger and yelling in traffic. We take these pastimes seriously, like sports and drinking.

The only way he could have made it worse for himself is if he had an RI plate. Mass residents have never been shy about letting people know how they feel about them (for better, or very worse 😅)

If there’s one thing Connecticut and Massachusetts agree on, it’s Rhode Island (but don’t worry, we can all shit on New Yorkers together)

News to me! Never been to the northeast. Anything in particular about Rhode island? Or just the typical “this state > a nearby state”?

It’s almost certainly the neighbors thing. The specific complaints are mostly that Rhode Islanders have a very distinctive accent (it’s no longer super widespread, but think Lois from family guy) and when your friends/relatives move there, they stop thinking of an hourlong drive (to visit you) as a day trip, but that might just be a trend in my circle.

That, and their clam chowder isn’t real chowder and wtf is coffee milk (yep, those are definitely just neighborly things to pick at). I always liked honey dew better than dunkin though.

Ha, thanks for sharing. I’m Midwest- Minnesota calls cheese balls (fried) “cheese curds”. Weirdos.

Nothing wrong with a bit of local pride.

Different world with the population density. Would rather live vicariously

Cheese balls are most certainly not equivalent to cheese curds in any form.

Cheese curds are an ambiguous term, they are either fresh or fried.

Traditionally, fried cheese curds are what one does with their extra cheese curds after they are no longer fresh.

Cheese curds are no longer fresh once they have been refrigerated and lose their squeak. Only thing left to do with them then is to batter and fry them. But they still aren’t cheese balls.

Silly blue plates don’t know shit about cheese.

*pass times. As in, a way to pass the time, like with a hobby such as fishing or drinking.

      pass time

I just realized I’ve always thought of it as past time, I guess I usually see it written as “pastime”. Past time doesn’t make any sense at all, the way I’ve always thought of it. Neat!

Shows how well they have been treated for so long they feel entitled to politeness.

None of that is threatening or harassing behavior.
